Change of industry: from telecom to healthcare

Published on 6/13/2024

It has been two years since I worked on the product design of various business-to-business (B2B) web applications at Swisscom AG. There were many changes since I joined: The very first CEO got retired, COVID pushed business customers to use Zoom and Teams instead of landline phones, and new near-shore centers were opened in Riga, Latvia, and Rotterdam, Netherlands.

A reason to leave

It was exciting to redesign the web portal used by Swisscom partners. Previously, I never worked so closely with users. Developing this software was a true collaboration. But in the end, it was still a large corporation with many layers of stakeholders and long delivery cycles. My curiosity grew to experience working with smaller and agile teams and shipping software increments in a shorter period of time.

Ärztekasse Genossenschaft is a 60-year-old firm with different products and services. A few years back, they opened a new department to develop the next medical practice management software. Conclusion

The department consists of approximately forty people. Decision making is fast, and new releases into production happen every two weeks. There is much less administrative overhead, which results in fewer meetings and more time to research, design, and collaborate with users and teams.
